Political and Legal Partner of the PLO
President Abbas in discussions with PM Olmert of Israel
BPNIC Press Statement, 4/29/2007
The emergence of a new Palestinian national unity government is a major step forward for peace and democracy in the Middle East.
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) government is recognized by Brazil as a legitimate representative of the Palestinian people established by agreements signed with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
BPNIC calls on Brazil to continue improving relations with the Palestinian National Authority, which was democratically elected, and which has abide by a cease fire with Israel, and agreed to previous peace agreements.
We praise President Lula Da Silva and his government for their policy of recognizing the Palestinian national unity government.
Today, Mr. Nabil Amr, the PNA's media advisor to President Abbas, said in a written statement that Israel is a political and legal partner of the PLO for peace.
The ultimate task now rests with Israel which is bound by its commitments to withdraw from occupied Palestinian territories.
